Get Paid to Write Sites

There are many website that pay for your writing skills. Hubpages is one of them. If you are looking to work from home or just need earn an extra income, then writing articles is a fun way to make a little money.

But hey, I am not a writer I hear you say… well I’ll let you in on a secret. Neither am I. To earn money from writing online articles you do not have to be particularly talented (however it is a BIG advantage if you are). My hub Make Money writing online is a good place to look if you want a few pointers about writing online, you can access it by clicking here.

What can I write about? Well most of these sites let you write about pretty much anything. That is where the fun part comes in - depending on the site, you can write about your favourite hobby or your daily commute to work (yes you really can!). Other sites will let you submit poems and recipes.

What's the catch I hear you ask? Well in exchange for allowing you to use their websites to publish your articles they take a cut of the revenue that you generate. Sometimes this can be as high as 90% or as low as 40%, sometimes less but so far 90% is the highest I have seen. Flixya.com actually give you 100% so it might be worth checking them out.

Below is a list of websites where you can display your writing skills and make some cash in the process. There is nothing stopping you signing up to a couple an trying your luck.

Hubpages

You can write about almost anything and place ads from Google Adsense, Amazon, Ebay and Kontera. Hubpages takes 40% of the revenue generated from your page, you get the rest. A great place to start your online writing career. Most of my "blogging income" comes from here.

Flixya
Get paid 100% of your ad revenue generated by your content. This site has yet to take off in popularity terms but that 100% is a great rate if you can get traffic.

WireTapMag
More for amateur journalists. You can write about social issues and get paid per article, minimum is $50 but the article has to be quality.

Xomba

Write about anything pretty much. They take 50% of revenue generated by Adsense.

Squidoo
Similar to hubpages, we have hubs they have lenses, but they take 50% of the ad revenue. Popular members can get bonuses.

Associatedcontent
Write about anything you like, and get paid depending on the popularity of your page.

eHow
Write HowTo articles and get paid based upon their popularity.

KPwriting
Get paid upto $20 per article

Shvoong.com
Get paid for writing guides and reviews and summaries. Shvoong distributes 10% of its advertising revenue amongst its writers. Once your account reaches $10, you get paid.

Mommythink
Write about babies and being pregnant and get paid.

RentaGhostWriter

Get writing projects. For serious writers.

ReviewParty

Write reviews and get paid income from Amazon sales (only if people buy stuff using your links)

ReviewStream

Write reviews about anything and get paid between $0.40 and $2.50. Payment is by Paypal only and you need to get to $50 before you can claim payment. I've never had a review rejected by ReviewStream, but please read the comments section below - gramarye & hubber4you have both given feedback that new members are having their reviews rejected immediatley. If anyone can elaborate on the situation, please post a comment.

LoveToKnow
Get paid for writing articles each month, prices starting at around $20. But you have to write 20 articles a month to get paid.

Helium

Get paid for writing about anything - you need to reach $25 before payment and you need to have a Paypal account.

PickJack
Get paid for asking and answering questions.

Daytipper
Win upto $100 dollar a day if your tip is selected as the best tip.  I have not used this site myself, but I have had some bad feedback about it.  Do your research about this (and all these sites) before signing up.

Remember, you do not need to be a skilled writer to join these sites. However, the better you are at writing and promoting your articles the more successful you will be. Don't copy other people's work. It's not nice and it could result in you getting banned - that's not a clever way to make money online.

If you struggle to make money after writing a few articles, don't give up. Most of these sites will keep paying (if your articles generate income) until you delete your account or they close down so you could possibly have an income for life. In fact Simplestuff has written an excellent hub for those of you who may be losing heart, you can read it here.

@TattoGuy - I wrote for them too. In my opinion Hubpages is far superior.

Hey, I'm back. I just went to ReviewStream and had a look around. Eventually I wrote a book review - I noticed how short most of them were, and kept it short and well written. However when I submitted it, I got a message "YOUR REVIEW IS NOT VALUABLE AND WE'RE NOT INTERESTED IN IT." it went on to say use the back button and revise my writing etc...

Can you throw any light on why this is happening?

BeBrown profile image

BeBrown Hub Author 2 years ago

@Gramarye - I'm not sure, sometimes it is because it is too short or that there not enough keywords in the review. I've never had one returned immediatley, normally they take days to respond.

gramarye profile image

gramarye 2 years ago

Ah, it might have been keywords because although I kept it short, it was still longer than many I looked at. Keywords - I'll try again when I have some time.

BeBrown profile image

BeBrown Hub Author 2 years ago

@Gramarye - The thing to remember with that site is that you get a one-off payment for your work rather than a continuous income.

Really nice information. I heard that many Flixya member got banned on their Adsense account. Is that right? Thanks for showing me about this. Good work. I'll bookmark this one.

BeBrown profile image

BeBrown Hub Author 2 years ago

Prasetio30 - yes because a lot of members on Flixya click on their own ads (or encourage eachother to click on ads). Google have to protect their advertisers so they ban people caught clicking on their own ads. I get a lot of comments indicating that I should do the same, but I don't. Just don't get involved in that kind of nonsense and you should be ok, but hubpages is the best earner in my opinion.

great hub, I went to review stream and wrote two articles, as soon as I submitted them I got this response one sec later "YOUR REVIEW IS NOT VALUABLE AND WE'RE NOT INTERESTED IN IT" haha in caps too, how could it be? no one had read it! I went back checked everything, it seemed to be okay, then I checked other reviews, mine was just as good if not better, I submitted again same response..I searched for other blogs concerning review stream and apparantly this happens a lot. Except for other people they start instantly rejecting your articles before you hit the 50 dollar mark, which is when you get a payout. Don't waste your time with review stream

BeBrown profile image

Thanks Momcar12 - however, this is just a list of what is out there. I cannot recommend all of them because I have yet to join them. They are merely sites that I found while I was researching. I do plan to try as many as I can, and I still say that Hubpages is the best.

Eawestwrites profile image

Eawestwrites 2 years ago

BeBrown, I would also recommend http://www.constant-content.com/?aref=13711 or Constant-Content. It's free, and works like an art gallery for writing. You write what you want (following their guidelines), make sure it is free of errors, and you set your own prices. If it sells, the site takes 35%. So on a $50 article I make $32.50. There is editor approval, it is for serious writers (those who write to inform, no first person accounts), but if your writing fits, it's easy to be successful. They pay out when you have $5 or more twice a month to Paypal, and what's nice is you don't have to promote your articles or anything. There's no ad revenue, but out of 104 articles, I've sold more than 80 licenses.

Good list of sites, and quite comprehensive, but one thing I'd like to point out is that some sites will only pay out money to those with an American mailing address. This means that any writers not living in America (or with an American PO Box or a friend willing to receive their cheques) can write articles for said sites and gain nothing in return. When I'd first joined eHow, I was excited to find out that I could be paid even a little for writing, but then found out that as a Canadian, I'd get nothing in return for my work. Just something to keep in mind.

Why not get paid to do what thousands are already doing (including you)? If your a YouTube kinda person there's a new site in the works that I've become really excited about. It pays you for each and every upload and by views! I've been googling around for this before and this seems to be exactly what I'm looking for.

Again, the sites not ready, but here's the link anyway:

Writing for other websites to make a bit of money is fine and I do it myself but if anyone is truly serious about writing for money you should consider creating your own website. It isn't an easy thing to do but it is all yours and you keep 100% of anything you can make.

I participate on hubpages and Squidoo but so far I havent found any other sites that I feel are worth the effort. Someone above said that you should try to get on as many sites as possible but I tend to disagree with that. I think it is best to concentrate on one or two or a small list for better results.

One site I didnt notice here or in the comments is Google's blogger blogs. If you have an AdSense account you can earn money there and you get 100% of whatever it makes (well minus Googles normal take that is)
